شرح و توضیحات کتاب رمان : Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth (افسانه های ناتمام نومنور و سرزمین میانه) اثر جی آر آر تالکین

جی آر آر تالکین (1892-1973) یکی از نویسندگان و زبانشناسان و شاعران مشهور بریتانیایی است که آثار مشهور و معروف هابیت و سه گانه ارباب حلقه ها را در کارنامه خود دارد. تالکین در سال ۱۹۵۷ به عنوان بهترین نویسندهٔ خیال ‌پردازی ‌نویس برای ارباب حلقه‌ ها  برندهٔ جایزه بین المللی داستان خیال‌ پردازی شد. در سال ۱۹۷۳ ، تالکین برنده ٔ اولین جایزه گاندلف شد و عنوان بزرگ ‌ترین نویسنده خیال‌ پردازی ‌نویس را به دست آورد. همچنین، او برندهٔ جایزه بین الملی لوکس در سال ۱۹۷۸ برای کتاب سیلماریون  و برنده جایزه مای تاپیک در سال ۱۹۸۱ برای کتاب افسانه‌ های ناتمام  می باشد.

افسانه های ناتمام نومنور و سرزمین میانه، یک مجموعه داستان کوتاه و مقاله اثر جی آر آر تالکین است که هرگز در طول زندگی اش کامل نشد و بعدها توسط پسرش کریستوفر تالکین ویرایش و در سال 1980 منتشر شد. بسیاری از افسانه های این مجموعه در کتاب سیلماریون به شکل دیگری بازگو شده اند. همچنین، این اثر شامل خلاصه ای از رخدادها و وقایع ارباب حلقه ها است که از دیدگاه و نگاه کمتر شخصی تری روایت شده است.

کتاب افسانه های ناتمام اطلاعات بسیار جزئی و بیشتری را درباره شخصیت ها، وقایع و مکان هایی که مختصر در ارباب حلقه به آن ها پرداخته شده، ارائه می دهد. برخی از این افسانه ها درباره اصلیت گاندولف و دیگر جادوگران (ایستاری)، مرگ ایزیلدور و گم شدن حلقه یگانه در گلدن فیلدز و نیز پایه گذاری قلمرو روحان است. این اثر دانش طرفداران تالکین از سرزمین میانه را کامل می کند.

The popular paperback edition of this fascinating collection of stories, which continue the tales of The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion and contains an alternative version of The Children of Hurin. Unfinished Tales is a collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth to the end of the War of the Ring, and provides those who have read The Lord of the Rings with a whole collection of background and new stories from the twentieth century's most acclaimed popular author. The book concentrates on the realm of Middle-earth and comprises such elements as Gandalf's lively account of how it was that he came to send the Dwarves to the celebrated party at Bag-End, the emergence of the sea-god Ulmo before the eyes of Tuor on the coast of Beleriand, and an exact description of the military organization of the Riders of Rohan. Unfinished Tales also contains the only story about the long ages of Numenor before its downfall, and all that is known about such matters as the Five Wizards, the Palantiri and the legend of Amroth. The tales were collated and edited by JRR Tolkien's son and literary heir, Christopher Tolkien, who provides a short commentary on each story, helping the reader to fill in the gaps and put each story into the context of the rest of his father's writings
